  1. How To Protect Your Pet From Tick Season Most of the United States households that have pets are troubled by these small, bumpy critters known as Ticks. In fact, a report says that fleas and ticks population has increased multifold all over the US and is certainly a cause for concern. Just like mosquitoes, ticks are also nasty bloodsuckers that induce a plethora of diseases in their hosts and suck the life out of our poor canines. Have you heard of any of these deadly illnesses like - Lyme disease, Tularemia, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Anaplasmosis or Ehrlichiosis etc? You know, all of these diseases are caused by ticks. And, for your information, these buggers don’t just linger around in the summers but can also be lurking in the winters as well. This makes it all the more important that the pet is safeguarded way in advance. As a responsible pet owner, thus, one must take precautionary measures to protect their pets and their house from the havoc they cause. To make your task simple we have put together some easy tips that you can follow to keep these blood-suckers out of your house as well as protect your pet even when he goes outdoors.

  2. Make Use of Preventatives We have emphasized on using preventatives as the foremost stint of keeping the ticks out because they protect the canines from picking up these parasites from the environment. These preventatives kill the ticks as they try to bite the animal and prevent them from causing diseases. Products like K9 Advantix topical treatment, Frontline Plus, Frontline Spray, Seresto and Kiltix collars are highly effective in killing and providing protection against ticks. It is recommended to use these preventatives regularly for a year-round protection. Checking Your Pet Routinely Sometimes ticks go completely unnoticed because they hide underneath the fur, or in the creases of the body which makes it important that a pet parent must check their canine carefully. Especially, if your dog stays outdoors most of the times or you take him out to the dog parks more often. Just move your hand on his neck, back, in between the legs and stomach. These are the common places ticks hide. Do Not Squeeze The Ticks Most of the people squeeze the tick while dislodging it from the pet’s body. It is a completely wrong way of removal. Ticks must always be removed by tweezers and gently pulled up. Make sure the head of the tick comes out completely to avoid the tick from vomiting inside the pet’s skin. Improper removal that leaves a section of the critter’s body still inside the pet’s skin will again lead to induction of the disease carried by that infected tick. Treat Your Garden and Yard The area surrounding your house like gardens and yards must be thoroughly treated with parasite controlling sprays and treatments. Do not forget your furniture, pet’s bedding and corners of the house. These all are the common places where your pet spends time and could transfer the parasite. Flush The Tick Instead Of Throwing It In The Dustbin Ticks can crawl, so if you dispose them in the dustbin or a basin they can crawl back up and again infest your house. So it is necessary that you simply flush them out in the toilet. If the tick needs to be tested for the disease it is carrying, put it in a container filled with alcohol.

  3. Do Not Forget To Pay A Visit To Your Pet We cannot have a casual attitude here. Vet visits must be a regular as it will ensure your pet doesn’t carry any tick. Moreover, if the pet exhibits symptoms associated with tick- borne diseases, it is all the more important to pay a visit to your vet immediately. If these tips are followed meticulously, your pet and household can stay tick-protected throughout the year, irrespective of the seasons or weather conditions. A little cautiousness can go a long way in protecting your pet from a multitude of diseases that ticks bring along. So, make the best use of preventatives and do not go overboard with your budget on pet supplies when you can simply purchase them at a fraction of the price online.
