SME is a professional organization formed to advance manufacturing knowledge SME stresses Innovation, Productivity, Flexibility, and Continuous Improvement SME believes that continuous learning is the most effective way for individuals and organizations to accomplish these objectives.

    4. SME provides information, resources, and opportunities for students to learn about manufacturing and gain the competitive edge needed for building lucrative careers in any manufacturing industry.

    5. Membership Advantages Scholarships -- SME's Education Foundation provides scholarships to help students pursuing degrees in manufacturing, engineering, science and technology. SME Jobs Connection -- FREE for student members. Nonmembers pay $85 for a 60 day posting.

Membership Advantages cont’d Student Member Update -- a bi-monthly e-communication published to help student members fully utilize their SME benefits and share knowledge and best practices SME Career Resource Center – Get access to technical papers Student Contests -- List of exciting and challenging competitions available for student members

    7. Membership Advantages cont’d Certification Programs -- Find out how becoming certified can enhance your career success. Opportunity for Plant Tours – Get the opportunity to visit a plant to see manufacturing first hand. Make Connections and Learn – Get the opportunity to make contacts with the local SME members by attending monthly Fort Wayne SME chapter meetings.

    10. How Do You Join??? Pick up a form from Michael Oh. Or go to SME web site www.sme.org and fill out student membership application form online. Or stop by the MIET office and pick up an application.

    11. Detailed Scholarship Information Many scholarships are available from the SME website (www.sme.org). Locally, Ft. Wayne Chapter 56 offers 3 scholarships for $2000 each. Eligibility Minimum GPA of 2.5 Preference given to student members sponsored by Ft. Wayne Chapter 56 (Includes IPFW). Few people from Ft. Wayne have applied in the past.
