  5. PREREQUISITES • Basic Knowledge of Different Number system (Before 12th standard) • (12th standard) • Knowledge of Hex Number System and its conversions • Basic Knowledge Digital Electronics • Basic Knowledge of Logic Gates and their uses HOLLISTIC FIX OF Microcontroller & Embedded Systems

  6. HOLLISTIC FIX………Continued • PRE REQUISTES • (6th Semester) • Basic concepts of Digital circuits • Combinational • Sequential • Knowledge of Microprocessors • Architecture • Memory organization • Assembly Language • Basic knowledge of Interfacing chips • DAC, ADC, PPI, USART • Keyboard Controller • Display Controller Etc. • Knowledge of Computer Programming concepts

  7. SCOPE IN RELATED FIELDS… • Embedded Systems Design • Microprocessors • Automation Industries • Control Applications • Home Appliances • Robotics HOLLISTIC FIX………Continued

  8. Key Concept of microcontroller • Any Device which is controlled by a Remote control Must have a Microcontroller being used • In today’s life we use dozens different microcontrollers in an ordinary days time.

  9. Key Concept of microcontroller Devices with microcontrollers

  10. Key Concept of microcontroller Devices with microcontrollers

  11. Key Concept of microcontroller What is Microcontroller • A Device called as a complete computer on single Chip • Capable of handling control applications • Widely used in automation

  12. Key Concept of microcontroller Difference Between Microprocessor and MicroController Data Bus CPU General-Purpose Micro-processor Serial COM Port I/O Port RAM ROM Timer Address Bus General-Purpose Microprocessor System CPU RAM ROM Serial COM Port I/O Port Timer Microcontroller (Computer on a single Chip) 12

  13. Key Concept of microcontroller Block Diagram of Microcontroller 13

  14. 7FH Scratch pad RAM 30H 2FH Bit-Addressable RAM 20H 1FH Register Bank 3 18H 17H Register Bank 2 10H 0FH (Stack) Register Bank 1 08H 07H Register Bank 0 00H Key Concept of microcontroller Stack Operation in 8051 • The register used to access the stack is called SP (stack pointer) register. • The stack pointer in the 8051 is only 8 bits wide, which means that it can take value 00 to FFH. When 8051 powered up, the SP register contains value 07.

  15. Interrupt :

  16. Research areas in cluster of MES: • Decrease the execution time. • Code Compatibility between different microcontrollers. • To reduce the cost through simpler architecture design. • Efficient use of multiple I/O ports. • Incorporation of more interfacing devices on a single chip reducing the PCB size. KEY RESEARCH AREA OF MICROCONTROLLERS & EMBEDDED SYSTEMS

  19. HOW WE STUDY......?

  20. LED Based Water Level indicator • Digital Clock Security systems • Automatic Door Lock • RF ID Systems • Tele Based Projects: • Telephone call recorder • Tele based Home security • Robotics Based Projects • Path Finder Robot • Crawler • Amphibian Robot Sensor Based Projects • Traffic light Operation • Home automation System PROJECTS IN MICROCONTROLLER & EMBEDDED SYSTEMS

  21. Walther Bothe, inventor of the coincidence circuit, got part of the 1954 Nobel Prize in physics, for the first modern electronic AND gate in 1924 • In 1947 Semiconductor Transistor invented by William Shokley at AT&T Bell Labs • In1970 Intel first developed a 4- bit processor • The Intel 8051 is a, single chip Microcontroller (µC) which was developed by Intel in 1980 for use in Embedded Systems TERENDS IN MICROCONTROLLERS

  22. PIC is a family of microcontrollers made by Microchip technology, by general instruments Microelectronics Division. The name PIC initially referred to "Programmable Interface Controller • The AVR is a Microcontroller (µC) which was developed by Atmel in 1996. • The AVR was one of the first microcontroller families to use on-chip flash memory for program storage. • The ARM is a 32-bitreduced instruction set computer (RISC), which is widely used in all kinds of mobile phones now.
