  6. Government Conclusion: “We will continue to develop ideas and action, learning from experience to help people choose health in the 21st Century. It is the next step in our journey towards engaging everyone in choosing health and tackling health inequalities. It is the beginning of a journey to build health into government policy and ensure that health is everyone’s business. We have set ambitious targets for health. The government is serious about ensuring that these commitments are met and that this time we get sustained and focused action to improve people’s health”.

  7. ‘Choosing Activity’ A Physical Activity Action Plan Aims include: • Halt the year-on-year increase in obesity amongst children under 11 by 2010. • Increase the take up of cultural & sporting opportunities by adults & young people aged 16 & above from priority groups. • Enhance the take-up of sporting opportunities by 5 to 16 years olds. • Lead the delivery of cleaner, safer & greener public places & improvement of the quality of the built environment in deprived areas.

  8. Choosing Activity in a Consumer Society Goals: Ensuring that people in all parts of society get the information they need in order to better understand: • The links between activity & better health • The opportunities in daily life to be active.

  9. Choosing Activity in the Workplace Goals: • Encourage employers to engage & motivate staff to be more active • Provide employers with support such as practical advice and examples of best practice
