  1. S.M.A.R.T.E.R. Goals Mr. Szewczyk is pretty pumped up for this today

  2. Lesson Objectives • The students will learn what about SMARTER goals • The students will be able to give examples of SMARTER goals • The students will be able to correct goals to fit the SMARTER criterion

  3. Goal Setting Demo

  4. S is for Specific • Goals need to be specific! • A specific goal will be able to answer: • What: What do I want to accomplish? • Why: Specific reasons, purpose or benefits of accomplishing the goal • Who: Who is involved? • Where: Identify a location • Which: Identify requirements and constraints

  5. M is for Measurable • We must be able to measure the goal so that we know that we achieved it! • This will usually answer questions such as: • How much? • How many? • How will I know when it is accomplished?

  6. A is for Attainable • The goal needs to be one that you can get – not too difficult, not too easy • This will answer the question: • How can the goal be accomplished?

  7. R is for Relevant • This makes sure that the goal is important. If the goal is not important for you, then will you really try hard to reach it? (No, probably not…) • A relevant goal will answer “yes” to all of these questions: • Does this seem worthwhile? • Is this the right time? • Does this match my other efforts/needs?

  8. T is for Time • All SMARTER goals include a time piece. This lets us know when you should accomplish the goal. • These goals usually answer these questions: • When? • What can I do six months from now? • What can I do six weeks from now? • What can I do today?

  9. The –ER of SMARTER • E is for Evaluate: At the end of the time, evaluate your goal and determine if you were successful • R is for either Reassess or Reward: After evaluating, do you need to change anything if you did not accomplish the goal? Or what reward did you earn for completing the goal?
