  2. What are propulsion systems? • Propulsion systems are the parts of a vehicle that moves energy to make power that moves the vehicle

  3. Heat Engines • External combustion engine Such as steam engines- produce steam outside the engine which creates power. • Internal combustion engines such as the engines we have today in most vehicles powered by gasoline.

  4. IN-LINE 4 CYLINDER V-6 Cylinder Four stroke cycle engine Inline 6 cylinder V8 Cylinder Two stroke cycle engine

  5. Diesel Engines The diesel engines do not use spark plugs to ignite the fuel instead it uses heat and pressure to ignite their fuel, which the engine is a internal combustion engine. The engine was developed by a man named Rudolph Diesel.

  8. Rocket Engines Rocket engines are the engines used on the space ships and other vehicles. There is an oxidizer added to the fuel that allows the fuel to combust. There are two types of fuel which are solid and liquid fuel. Solid fuel Liquid fuel

  9. Electrical Propulsion Some car manufacturers are realizing that the pollution of car need to be limited so they are producing more cars that run off of an electrical current and produce little or no pollution

  10. Electromagnetic Propulsion The system uses the term Maglev short for Magnetic Levitation. Also another alternative transportation reducing air pollution. The magnetic fields allow the vehicle to not actually touch the magnetic track moving above the actual guide way.

  11. Diesel Electric Propulsion Diesel electric propulsion systems and most commonly seen in train engines but also found in submersibles (aka submarines)

  12. Nuclear Propulsion Vehicles use nuclear power to propel their vehicles such as military ships submarines they are similar to the electric generating.

  13. Solar Propulsion Solar vehicles are vehicles that use the suns energy to produce energy and to propel the vehicle through a series of events
