  2. WELCOME Welcome to what I hope will be an interesting and fun way to study one of John Steinbeck's famous novels. This Web Quest is designed to guide you through activities associated with the novel, and it provides links and rubrics to accompany each activity.

  3. INTRODUCTION This Web Quest is designed to introduce background material about John Steinbeck's The Pearl. Students will learn about John Steinbeck, La Paz, pearls, and other interesting facts related to the novella.

  4. TASK The Web Quest for The Pearl is divided into five groups. Your group is responsible for researching one of those sections and creating a presentation for your class. I hope this will be a fun and interesting way for you to study a work by one of America's greatest authors and one of his more popular works.

  23. INTRODUCTION There are many symbols in modern day life. A dove is a symbol for peace. A light bulb over a cartoon character’s head symbolizes an idea. John Steinbeck uses numerous symbols in The Pearl. For example, in the first few pages of the book the child is bitten by a scorpion. Why a scorpion? Kino finds a pearl. What could a pearl symbolize?

  26. EVALUATION Once you have completed your research, create a PowerPoint presentation to present the information to your classmates. Your PowerPoint should include - A title page (5 points)- A minimum of 5 slides containing your presentation

(DO NOT COPY AND PASTE INFORMATION ONTO THE SLIDES – USE AS FEW WORDS AS POSSIBLE SO THAT THE SLIDES ARE NOT CONFUSING) (60 points)- Photos, Art, etc. to enhance the presentation.(10 points)- You may include sound in your presentation but this is not required.- A reference page for your sources. (10 points)

  28. - The final presentations will begin on Wednesday, June 27th (Completed on time 5 points)- You are expected to proofread your presentation and correct any errors in grammar. (10 points)- Everyone is expected to participate in both the creation and presentation of your project.

  29. CONCLUSION Congratulations! Now that you have done all of the research about John Steinbeck, La Paz,pearls,pearl diving & symbolism and made presentations explaining this information, you are ready to begin further analysis of The Pearl!
