What is SBAC? • The Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium is one of two multistate consortia that has developed an assessment system based on the new Common Core State Standards (CCSS) • Three components: • Summative assessments – spring 2014 • Interim assessments – spring/fall 2014 • Formative tools – spring 2014

  5. What Elementary Students are Being Tested? • Grade 5 ELA and Math – March 18 – April 4 • Grade 4 ELA and Math – April 7 – April 25 • Grade 3 ELA and Math – April 28 and May 16 • **Grade 5 Science CMT – March 18

  6. What is a Computer Adaptive Test? • Based on student responses the computer program adjusts the difficulty of questions through the assessment • Advantages: • Provides accurate measurements of student growth over time • Item difficult is based on student response • Shorter test length • Turn around time is significantly reduced • CAT will start in spring 2015

SBAC Field Test Schedule Sample (2) English/ Language Arts sessions on computer (45 minutes each session- 90 minutes total) (1) English/Language Arts in –class activity in preparation for ELA performance task (30 minutes) (2) English/Language Arts performance tasks on computer (1 hour each session)
