  1. Minor Home Remodel Versus Gut Renovation: Which Is Right For You?

  2. Renovations and remodels have been steadily increasing in popularity in recent years, especially in light of the recent health pandemic, in which many people were forced to spend extended periods of time in their homes. That said, there is still some confusion surrounding minor remodels and gut renovations, and as a result, homeowners may be unsure of which is the right solution to meet their needs. If you’re interested in renovating or remodeling your home, but aren’t sure quite what scale the project will be (or even what it will be called!), here are some differences between the two renovation and remodel types to help put things in a clearer perspective:

  3. What is described as a minor remodel? If overall, your home works on a functional level but style and décor wise, it’s a bit of a disaster, you probably need a minor remodel. When a minor remodel is being carried out, no changes are made to the property’s existing footprint, and in some instances, many of the appliances and other types of fixtures and fittings, are also preserved. If you were having your kitchen remodeled, for example, you might decide to replace the kitchen cabinets or have them repainted, or add new countertops. In a bathroom, you might want to replace your tub with a walk-in shower or new tile surround.

  4. What is there to think about before taking on a minor remodel? If you’re sure that the space in your home isn’t an issue, and that all you want to do is update and upgrade some of its features, then a minor remodel is a fantastic idea, and the right type of remodel under the circumstances. But, if you don’t have enough space, or the space isn’t configured in a pleasing or functional way, you might not achieve the results you desire from a minor remodel. Considerably less costly than a gut renovation, and taking less time, these are all considerations you’ll need to think about when making your decision.

  5. What is a gut renovation? Gut renovations are ideal for when you simply don’t have enough space in your home to live comfortably, or the layout isn’t to your taste or doesn’t function well. During a gut renovation, such things as the flooring, walls, lighting, cabinets and appliances are all added as new, and many rooms in the home may be gutted with walls being removed and so on. If a property has foundation, plumbing or electrical issues, a gut renovation may also be the only solution.

  6. What is there to think about before taking on a gut renovation? First and foremost, a gut renovation is a significant investment, and while it might well be worth it, you’ll have to scrutinize your available finances and figure out whether you can actually afford to take on such a big project. Not only that, but a gut renovation can take considerably longer. The entire process from beginning to end is more complex and longwinded than a minor remodel, but you’ll get a functional, stylish and enviable home at the end of it all.

  7. Overall, both types of remodel and renovation can be disruptive and costly, but getting the home you’ve always dreamed of, could well be worth it. To discuss your remodeling or renovation needs in more detail, schedule a consultation with a local construction company and start setting the wheels in motion!
