  1. Renovating Versus Remodeling; What’s The Difference?

  2. While the average person might use the words renovate and remodel as if they both have the same meaning, they are in fact, quite different. The dictionary definition of the word renovate, is to “restore to a good state of repair”, while for remodel, the definition is to “change the structure, shape, or appearance of something”. So, if you’re a homeowner seeking to make some improvements to your home, such as giving your kitchen a professional makeover – either for your personal use or to help sell the property and increase its value – you’ll need to be clear on what exactly it is that you plan to do, before engaging with a local kitchen remodeling or renovation firm.

  3. Let’s look at kitchen renovating in a little more detail: Restoring a space, or making it new again with a kitchen renovation When planning to renovate the kitchen in your apartment, you might find it useful to think of it as a revamp, if you’re confused between the two terms. Updating and improving your kitchen without making any structural changes (which would make it a kitchen remodel), is classed as a kitchen renovation.

  4. If thinking about your kitchen in terms of renewing it or restoring it to its former glory, it would include such work as re-painting, re-facing cabinets, and installing new fixtures and fittings, to name but a few. Upgrading the kitchen to bring it in line with other kitchens in your locality – especially if you’re planning to sell the property – would typically involve making the kitchen more usable, attractive and modern. Since no structural changes are made with a kitchen renovation, every alteration and upgrade, is essentially cosmetic, but that doesn’t mean that they’re of any less worth than a remodel. What it does mean, however, is that if your budget is limited, you can still make the most of your kitchen and use it to help sell your property, or simply enjoy your apartment to a greater degree.

  5. When done professionally and with appropriate foresight, creativity and planning, a kitchen renovation can significantly increase the chances of you being able to sell the property, and depending upon the extent and standard of work carried out, could even see you sell your apartment for more. Change the shape or appearance of a space with a kitchen remodel Requiring a substantially higher budget than your standard kitchen renovation project, a kitchen remodel also takes a lot more planning, and typically benefits from professional assistance, such as from a construction firm who specialize in apartment remodeling.

  6. Kitchen remodeling projects usually involve changing the use of a space, and completely transforming the entire layout of a room by reconfiguring the floor plan. With kitchen remodeling, homeowners may choose to open the space up by changing it structurally and combining it with other rooms in the apartment, such as the dining or living room. Or simply make it a large open plan space with a convenient kitchen island for sitting or cooking at.

  7. Essentially, remodeling can make an old, tired or cramped kitchen look and feel like an entirely new, more usable space, and while it is a bigger project to take on than a kitchen renovation project, it has so many benefits that it’s always a worthwhile investment. You might be clear now on the difference between renovating and remodeling, but if you’re unsure as to what is the best course of action for your apartment kitchen, consult (usually for free) with a local construction firm, who can talk you through your options in greater detail.
