  1. AI, Us and the Future As I have mentioned in TechCentral.ie, we are living in an exciting time of the 4th industrial revolution and I think it is the best time to be human if we use our human strengths to its full potential. AI is now kicking-off its development and will soon reached its maturity. It will change humanity’s way of living. We humans will now need to really tap to our best strengths to compliment and not compete with AI. These strengths is within us and within reach. As per the Job survey of World Economic Forum, the top five trending skills in demand by 2022 are: analytical thinking and innovation; active learning and learning strategies; creativity, originality and initiative; technology design and programming; and critical thinking and analysis. Attending conferences and meeting AI experts in various occasions made me realise that AI is not only for the few. It is for the many who can embrace change with a clear vision of what they want for the future. The Five a Day for the Mind With the rapid change of technology, smart machines are all over us. According to Bluelist, Google receives over 63,000 searches per second on any given day. Despites Google’s credibility in search, I am strongly convinced that the human mind will always have a place. In the first place, humans created smart devices, smart machines, algorithms, and Google. Therefore, there is no better time to look after our mind than now. The New Economic Foundation have researched and developed 5 mental wellbeing framework: learn, connect, be active, take notice and give. I call this the 5-a-day for the mind. I am passionate about this framework and I am supporting this campaign for individuals to keep up with the changing times. If we want to be more than the smart machines and devices, we first need to look after our mental well-being and here’s how. Learn Machines learn 24/7. Even at night, machines are learning while we are sleeping. It is just fair for mankind to never lose that enthusiasm to learn something new every day. Sign up for a class, read the news or a book or join a club such as Toastmasters and attend Toastmaster’s meeting. Google may know what Toastmasters is but will never be able to get the learning experience the members have. This is my first-hand experience. Connect There is strong evidence that indicates that feeling close to, and valued by, other people is a fundamental human need and one that contributes to functioning well in the world.

  2. Positive connection to another human serves as buffer against mental illness for people of all ages. Let’s to do something different today and make a connection. Talk to someone instead of sending an email or just Rhealyn Mugri and her take on how to prepare for AI, automation, and change a text. This way, smart machines will never know what that experience was like talking to a real person. Be active Being active has been scientifically associated in lowering the rates of depression and anxiety across all ages. Exercise is important to our mental well-being. But it doesn’t need to be particularly intense for you to feel good - slower-paced activities, such as walking. Machines may be able to track our steps but will never get the benefit we get from that physical activity. After all, it is only taking the data and not the energy we gained from being active. Take notice Studies have shown that being aware of what is taking place in the present directly enhances your well-being. Let’s take some time to enjoy the moment and the environment around us. Intelligent machines only take notice of the data available for them. Not the over-all experience of the park or the joy of meeting someone interesting or of that peace and quietness you experience being on top of the mountain. Give Research has shown that committing an act of kindness once a week over a six-week period is associated with an increase in wellbeing. Google can give but only an information. It can define what is kind and what give means but will never get that feeling of being kind or of being human with a sense of purpose. The 5 Wellbeing framework for the mental health are steps intelligent machines can’t completely do. Therefore, being human is always an edge above all these artificial intelligence.
