  1. Often farmers cannot make enough money by growing crops or rearing livestock alone. Many farmers look to ‘diversification’ as a way of making money. • Farmers often open their farms as: • Caravan and campsites or holiday home parks • Golf courses • Pick your own fruits, e.g. strawberries • Farm shops and petting zoos • Keeping Llamas, ostriches or buffalo for ‘different’ meat • Opening their rivers as fishing grounds • Growing Christmas trees • Selling land for wind turbines or solar panels (solar farming) • Your task is to write a letter to a Mr Lancaster, a farmer near you, explaining why diversification will help him and his family make more money on their farm. You need to suggest what they should try and why. Then produce a poster/flier for their farm to give to the local community so they can support their new ideas. Diversifying Farming
