  1. Part 22Christian Liberty: Liberty to Imitate Jesus First Corinthians Sinners YET Saints

  2. 1 Corinthians 10:23-11:1 23 All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify. 24 Let no one seek his own, but each one the other’s well-being. 25 Eat whatever is sold in the meat market, asking no questions for conscience’ sake; 26 for “the earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness.” 27 If any of those who do not believe invites you to dinner, and you desire to go, eat whatever is set before you, asking no question for conscience’ sake.

  3. 1 Corinthians 10:23-11:1 28 But if anyone says to you, “This was offered to idols,” do not eat it for the sake of the one who told you, and for conscience’ sake; for “the earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness.” 29 “Conscience,” I say, not your own, but that of the other. For why is my liberty judged by another man’s conscience? 30 But if I partake with thanks, why am I evil spoken of for the food over which I give thanks? 31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 32 Give no offense, either to the Jews or to the Greeks or to the church of God,

  4. 1 Corinthians 10:23-11:1 33 just as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved. 1 Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.

  5. Christian Liberty (Definition) • Christian liberty is the freedom one Spirit-filled believer might have in his Biblically-informed conscience with regard to some practice to which another believer might equally conscientiously object.

  6. Six Testsof Christian Liberty • Will this activity bring freedom or bondage? (1 Cor. 6:12, Eph. 5:18, 1 Tim. 3:2, 8) • Will this activity be a stepping stone or a stumbling block? (1 Cor. 8:13) • Will this activity build up or tear down (1 Cor. 10:23, Rom. 14:19-21) • Will this activity please God or only me? (1 Cor. 10:31, 2 Cor. 5:9, Rom. 14:10-14, 23)

  7. Six Testsof Christian Liberty • Will this activity bring freedom or bondage? • Will this activity be a stepping stone or a stumbling block? • Will this activity build up or tear down • Will this activity please God or only me? • Will this activity further the gospel or hinder it (1 Cor. 10:33, 1 Cor. 9:19-23) • Will this activity imitate Jesus’ example? (1 Cor. 11:1, Luke 19:1-10)

  8. “Imitate Me, Just as I also imitate Christ.” 1 Corinthians 11:1 Christian Liberty is a great gift of grace whereby we are able to remove the chains of law and be clothed in the righteousness of Jesus and embrace a Christ-centered life led by the Holy Spirit. The Christian life is not a life of rules, regulationsand scorecards but one of freedom through a relationship with God!
