  1. Cross-Border Quality Assurance- The Danish example- Meeting of Directors General for Higher EducationOctober 22nd – 23rd 2012

  2. Content of Presentation • The Danish accreditation system • Cross-border quality assurance • Expectations for the future?

  3. Accreditation in Denmark • Accreditation of university study programmes • Five criteria based on quality and relevance • Both assessment and decision is preformed independently of the ministry • Assessment – ACE Denmark (university study programmes) and Danish Evaluation Institute (EVA) (other higher educational study programmes) • Decision – The Accreditation Council

  4. Cross-border quality assurance • The universities themselves choose the QA agency • Either EQAR-registered agencies or regarded as internationally recognised: • Erasmus Mundus Masters Programmes only EQAR-register • Parts of study programmes: • Quality assured as part of an existing Danish study programme or as part of a foreign study programme • It is sufficient that the foreign study programme is offered by an institution that has an institutional based quality assurance • Cross-border QA can reduce bureaucracy, contribute to more joint and double degree and in the end increase mobility in HE

  5. Expectations for the future? • New legislation – not tested in practice yet • Universities know what they have, but not what they get • Effect of future shift in Denmark to accreditation of HE institutions instead of individual study programmes?
