  1. Paying it forward Hebrews 10:1-5, 10-14; 17 - 25

  2. Is “Paying it forward” a Biblical concept? • Elements: • Someone must do a good “deed” for another person; • In response to what has been done the recipient is asked to do a good deed for another person rather than return the payment or favor to the original “do-er”

  3. What act of love has Christ done for you? Hebrews 10:4-5 – • It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins; Therefore… Hebrews 10:19 – • Therefore, since we have access to God … by the blood of Jesus… let us…

  4. Gentiles did not have access into the interior courts of the Temple (Luke 23:44) Woman did not have access beyond the first interior court Men did not have access beyond the second interior court

  5. Only the chief priest had access to the Holy of Holies (once a year) on the Day of Atonement. A veil separated God from man. Sin is that barrier.

  6. Christ is the door of access to God • Christ has removed/replaced the veil with a door - Himself: • 10:19-20. “Enter by … the veil of his flesh. • Luke 23:44-45. Veil torn from top to bottom. • John 10:9, I am the door. If anyone enters through me he shall be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.

  7. How did Christ remove the veil? • Born in human body. 10:5 • His blood is shed on our behalf, once for all. 10:10, 14, 19 • We are “sprinkled clean” by his blood through our faith. 10:22 • God remember our sins no more. 10:17-18

  8. Three ways to pay it forward • 10:22. Let us draw near to God in faith believing we are forgiven. • Nothing to add to what Christ has done. 10:18; daily “works” do not bring forgiveness. • Christ is door allowing “nearness.”

  9. Three ways to pay it forward • 10:23. Let us hold fast the confession, the testimony, the belief that Christ is our hope. • Matt 12:21, “In His name the Gentiles will hope.”

  10. Three ways to pay it forward • 10:24. Let us consider how to stimulate -- to invigorate, to quicken, to spark, to activate-- one another to love and good deeds. • What does God say and do? • Matt 24:12, John 13:34, 1 John 4:7-11, 19-21 • We love because God first loved us.

  11. Christ did not die for us so we would pay him back. He died so that He might give life to us; and then continue to give that life to others through us. • How are you doing on paying it forward for Christ?
