    1. Physics Final Review

    2. Scalar vs Vector Scalar - only has value ie. Height Vector has value and direction

    3. Speed and Velocity Speed = Distance / Time Velocity = Distance/ Time with Direction Acceleration = Velocity / Time with Direction ------Which makes it a vector

    4. Projectile Straight up or Down V= V0+AT Velocity = Initial Velocity + (Acceleration)(Time) Drop a ball off the roof it takes 3 seconds to hit ground. What is the velocity? V = 0 +(-10m/s)* (3) V= -30m/s

    5. Shooting something upwards A bullet is shot in the air and it takes 8 seconds to hit the ground. What is its velocity At the top(4 seconds) V0 = 0 So V=0 + (-10)(4) V = -40 m/s

    6. Newtons Laws Newton's First Law An object at rest tends to stay at rest and an object in motion tends to stay in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. Newton's Second Law The acceleration of an object as produced by a net force is directly proportional to the magnitude of the net force, in the same direction as the net force, and inversely proportional to the mass of the object. Newton's Third Law For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

    7. Forces Gravity Normal Spring Tension Buoyancy Friction Air

    8. Friction Friction is a force that occurs when 2 surfaces oppose each other. Types of Friction Static Sliding Rolling Fluid

    9. Friction Equation F= uN Friction = (coefficient of friction)*Normal Force What is the Force of friction of a 10 kg box on ice(coefficent of fiction = .1) F = (.1) *(10kg)*(10m/s) F = 10 N

    10. Bridges Truss A truss is designed and engineered to distribute the weight which it carries over a broader area by adding additional supporting structure. The design of a truss, which is usually a variant of a triangle, creates both a very rigid structure and one that transfers the load from a single point to a considerably wider area.

    11. Types of Bridges Beam Truss Suspension Arch Cantilever

    12. Density Density is the amount of matter in a given space or The amount of mass in a certain volume of matter Density = Mass/ Volume Density of an object is measured in g/cm or g/cc. What is the density of a 15g bar that has a volume of 5 cm 3 g/cm

    13. Simple Machines Pulleys Wheels and Axles Inclined Planes Wedges Screws

    14. Work and Power Work = Force * Distance Power = Work / Time

    15. Conservation of Energy The law of conservation of energy states that the total amount of energy in a closed system remains constant. A consequence of this law is that energy cannot be created nor destroyed. Pi = Pf

    16. Energy Equations Potential Energy = Stored Energy= Mass* Gravity*Height Kinetic Energy = Energy of Motion = M*V2 A 10 kg shoe is dropped from 30 m what is its velocity? (10kg)(10m/s2)(30) = (10kg) V2

    17. Types of Energy Heat Air blowing out Furnace Chemical Flame in Furnace, Food Electromagnetic- Circuit Nuclear- Sun Mechanical- Ball kicked

    18. Momentum Momentum = Mass * Velocity What is the momentum of a 25kg dog running 5 m/s Momentum = 125 kg*m/s

    19. Pascals Principle Pressure applied to a fluid in a closed container is transmitted equally to every point of the fluid and to the walls of the container. P = F1/A1 = F2/A2 Hydraulics

    20. Bernoulli Bernoulli's principle: as the velocity of a fluid increases, the pressure exerted by that fluid decreases.
