  2. Introduction • The Iditarod is a big race! It’s held in Alaska. It starts in Anchorage and ends in Nome. It is 1,049 miles long or 1,100 but it is most likely to be 1,049. It has many dogs. The dogs train for 1,400 training miles.

  3. Routes • In the Iditarod there is a northern route and a southern route . Some years you take a northern route and others they take the southern route. This year I think they are taking the northern route.

  4. Musher My musher is 64 years old. His name is Sonny Lindner. He was born on Christmas Eve. He says he enjoys working with sled dogs and reading. He has 6 kids. 4 of them are adults and 2 are younger. He finished 4th in the Alaska Sweepstakes in 2008.

  5. Dogs • One of the most important parts of the race are the dogs. You have to take care of the dogs at each checkpoint and check their paws. The two types of dogs they use are Alaskan Malamutes and Siberian Huskies.

  6. Awards • The awards are one of the most important parts of the race. If you come in 1st you get a truck and $50,000. If you come in last you get the Red Lantern Award. You can also get the Sportsmanship Award , the taking good care of you’re dog’s award and more.
