The crosses indicate the flight altitute of the Geophysica for each of the 38 individual profiles retrieved. The gap in the middle part of the plot is due to the dive (figure 2) during which the shutter of the instrument was closed. Other gaps are due to instrument failures (followed by automatic restart) and occassional instrument performance checks. September 2000
