Why Do We Believe? • Selective Perception(선택적 지각): the process by which individuals perceive what they want to in media messages while ignoring opposing viewpoints • Barnum Effect (바넘효과): a type of subjective validation in which a person finds personal meaning in statements that could apply to many people • Pygmalion Effect (피그말리온 효과): the phenomenon in which people try to transform themselves in an effort to fulfill expectations towards them • Confirmation Bias (확증편향): a tendency of people to favor information that confirms their beliefs or hypotheses.
