How Does It Work? • Voluntary program • Schools must meet or exceed criteria • Apply for Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Gold Award of Distinction certification
Guiding Principles • 2 year certification period • Meet SMI requirements • Serve reimbursable meals that reflect good menu planning principles • Offer foods that ensure students can select a meal that meets all HUSSC criteria
Application Packet • Step 1 • Local Review Panel evaluation • Foodservice Manager • Team Nutrition School Leader • School Food Authority representative • Parent Organization representative • Physical Education/Health Teacher • School Principal or Administrator
Application Packet Step 2 • State Agency evaluation
Application Packet Step 3 • State submits application to FNS Regional Office Step 4 • Region reviews and submits application to FNS Headquarters
Recognition • School receives a plaque and banner • School is recognized on the Team Nutrition website • Special event held at most schools/districts
