  2. What is Word Processing? • The use of the computer to create and edit documents • Can refer to any portion of Microsoft Office • We will use Microsoft Word Principles of IT: Intro to Word Processing

  3. What can you create? • Letters • Brochures • Resumes • Reports • Tables • Graphs • You can create ANYTHING if you have the proper Word Processing skills! Principles of IT: Intro to Word Processing

  4. Word Processing Terms • Typeface • Shape of Characters • Times New Roman, Arial, Comic Sans • Font • A collection of letters and numbers in a particular typeface • EX: Bold, 10 point, Times New Roman Principles of IT: Intro to Word Processing

  5. Word Processing Terms • Format • Specifying the font alignment, margins • The layout of a document • Some documents have specific layouts • Alignment • The way lines of a text are arranged • Centered, Right Aligned, Left Aligned, Justified Principles of IT: Intro to Word Processing

Word Processing Terms • Tab • Moving the Cursor to the next location by using the Tab key on the keyboard • You can also set Tab Stops • Margins • the blank space to the left and right sides and at the top and bottom of a page • Use File and then Page Setup to access Principles of IT: Intro to Word Processing

Word Processing Terms • Header/Footer • The header is one or more lines of text that appear at the top of every page of a document • The footer consists of lines of text that appear at the bottom of every page of a document • Line Spacing • Line Spacing refers to the number of blank spaces between lines of text • Double Space, Single Space Principles of IT: Intro to Word Processing

Word Processing Terms • Print Preview • Click on the menu choice or icon for a Print Preview and you will be shown an image of exactly what the printed output will look like • Indent • An indent is one or more spaces that are used to move the text to the right of the left margin Principles of IT: Intro to Word Processing

Word Processing Terms • Spelling/Grammar Check • Word processing programs contain a spell check program which can verify the correct spelling of words in a document • Copy • To duplicate selected text, selected cells, or a selected object; shortcut is CONTROL C Principles of IT: Intro to Word Processing

Word Processing Terms • Cut • Removes the current selection from the document and places the it on the clipboard for pasting for future use (shortcut method is Control X) • Paste • Information that has been cut or copied to the clipboard can be placed in another location at a later time when needed (shortcut method is Control V) Principles of IT: Intro to Word Processing
