  1. GCRC Informatics Project February 24, 2005 6th Spring Presentation Sponsor: Dr. Paul Harris, GCRC Informatics Director Members: Chris Heath, BME/EE Adam Nagel, CompE Chris Nash, EE Brendan Soar, CompE

  2. Progress This Week • Added more functionality, robustness to program • Identified even more issues to address • Began documentation process for Dr. Harris • Implemented system on completely new components to ensure portablility • Ran into problems with network connections

  3. Added Functionality • Better GUI • Ensured protection of data file on PDA in case of program crash • Created failsafe algorithm to deal with loss of Bluetooth connection. • Fixed other issues • Exiting at certain points • Dynamically changing timing scheme • Problem with 1st Measurement

  4. Bluetooth Failsafe Algorithm

  5. Documentation • Created “Install” CD with all prerequisite software • Went through entire process with Dr. Harris and Carlos • Took screenshots, recorded action for creation of typed User’s manual • Part of required deliverables to Dr. Harris at end of semester

  6. Exported System • Dr. Harris’s PC • HP iPAQ Pocket PC • Previously unused monitor • Issues with Bluetooth on different model PDA

  7. New Functions to Add • Setup Bluetooth independently of PDA model • Create “stop bp acquire” button • Create other Vis • HR only acquire • Remote control • Compatibility with other models • Other GUI features

  8. “Showstopping” issues with DALP • Code won’t compile for Windows Mobile platform • Pre-compiled DALP DLL not compatible with LabVIEW functions • Difficulty learning how to use a class from a linked library • Shift in focus • Developing alternative approaches to uploading data

  9. First AlternativeUse a desktop as a Bluetooth link • Advantages • Involves mostly proven components • Simple server VI application due to “data dump” method • Disadvantages • Requires modification of solution requirements • PDA must be returned to central location • More complex procedure for users

  10. Second AlternativeUse a desktop as an 802.11x link • Advantages • In line with original solution requirements • No “data dump” or extra steps required for nurses • Real-time monitoring of study progress • Disadvantages • Server VI will need to handle complex cases • Server VI will need to be running at all times

  11. Goals for the coming week • Successful interviews with ADTRAN • Research MySQL connectivity alternatives • 802.11x w/ network server solution • Bluetooth/AirCable pass-thru solution • Bluetooth connection independent of PDA, so one PDA can connect to multiple devices • Wrap up mid-semester progress report
