Model European Union

The Model European Union (Model EU) simulates the workings of the European Union, focusing on its key institution, the European Parliament (EP). Every five years, EU citizens elect Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) to represent them, with a unique apportionment system that gives smaller states greater representation. The Lisbon Treaty has strengthened the EP’s legislative powers, and MEPs are organized by political affiliation. Important policy areas include environment, transportation, and justice. Plenary sessions are held in both Strasbourg and Brussels for formal debates and decisions.
