  4. Water Audit • Water Production – Total Sales = Unaccounted for Water • Unaccounted for water consists of unmettered free accounts, fire protection, system flushing, water leaks and water theft. • To achieve a more accurate water audit • Meter free accounts and obtain fire protection usage and closely monitor flushing.

  5. Meter Calibration • First establish meter calibration program for water source production. • Second establish meter calibration programs for customer accounts. • Begin with the larger water users.

  6. Leak Prevention • Capital Improvement Programs • Lateral Replacement Policy • In House Water Line Improvements • Aggressive Leak Repair Strategies

  7. Reduction in Water Leaks

  8. Water Main & Looping Program • Elimination of dead-ended lines results in better water quality and reduces required flushing • Looped water lines also improve fire protection • Looping and replacing of outdated distribution lines have helped the city reduce its required flushing • This program has resulted in a savings of over 4 million gallons of water between 1999 and 2001.

  9. Alternative Water Sources for Irrigation • Shallow wells developed for 15 squared in Savannah’s Historic District. Groundwater savings total 9.0 MG/year • Conversion of Bacon Park Golf Course irrigation. • Reclaim Water from President Street Wastewater Plant for Savannah Harbor and Savannah Golf Course
