  1. Friday, May 31, 2013 1) 3) 2) Do Now: factor each expression completely

  2. Questions from Homework? • text p. 297-298 #s 14-24 even • text p. 326 #s 27-30 all

  3. 6-3 Solving Quadratic Equations by Factoring Objectives Students will be able to: Solve quadratic equations by factoring Write a quadratic equation with given roots

  4. Methods of Solving Quadratic Equations • 1) Graphically (like last class, Sections 6.1, 6.2 and 6.6) • 2) Factoring (Section 6.3) • 3) Quadratic Formula (Section 6.5) • To solve a quadratic equation by FACTORING: • 1) set the equation equal to zero (collect all terms on one side of the equation) • 2) completely factor the equation • 3) set each factor equal to zero and solve

  5. Solve each equation by factoring. 1) 2)

  6. 3) 4)

  7. 5) 6)

  8. Try these. 7) 8) 9) 10) 11) 12)

  9. If given the roots to a quadratic equation, we can actually work backwards to determine what the equation is. Example: Write a quadratic equation with the roots -4 and 7.

  10. Try this one. Write a quadratic equation with the roots 4 and -5.

  11. classwork • Text p. 304 #s 15-37 odd • Hand in when finished
