  4. Why we speak so little about $ • Offended by this focus in some churches and TV shows • Decided to try to run our church/community without taking regular offerings

  5. Good Side • So far, it has largely worked • We’ve been able to create an environment where people know that they are safe from being asked for money all of the time

  6. Bad Side • We give freely to many good projects without making sure that our foundational community is well-established • This year we are quite a bit behind on our budget • We haven’t done enough teaching about giving and wise and responsible use of money

  7. New Testament Priorities • Flowing in generosity • Giving from the heart • Caring for the disadvantaged in practical ways • Building communities of faith and kindness • Learning to share

  8. Jesus (Luke 6) • 37 “Do not judge, and you will not be judged; and do not condemn, and you will not be condemned; pardon, and you will be pardoned. 38 Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.”

  10. Resolved • Share financial information on the website • Give quarterly reports • Explain what we need monthly (about $9,200) • Share reports in messages from time to time so that people who listen from afar will know where we’re at

  11. Understanding our Finances Main Expenses (approximately $110,000 a year): Building: $22,000 Salaries: $67,000 Mission: $13,000 (plus $27,000 in designated giving through September) Operations: $7,000

  12. Building: about $22k • 8,500 electricity 750 water & sewer • 3,600 insurance 1,000 equipment • 4,473 repair & maintenance 1,000 grass & snow • 2,500 phone & internet

  13. Salaries: about $67k • Peter Mary Ellen • Walter Lorna • Joy Paul • (including Canada Receiver General)

  14. Mission: about $13k • Vineyard Canada: $5,600 • Projects: $4,000 • Community Care (including food): $3,000 • (plus $27k through September in designated giving)

  15. Operations: about $7,000 • Children & Youth: $2000 • Coffee: $3000 • Office Supplies, Other Supplies: $2,000

  17. Weekly Donations Sailing Swimming $2,120 $1,640 Dream . . . Reality . . . It would be great if we could raise our giving by $400 or $500 a week

  18. Where We Find Ourselves • With the Vineyard • With our finances • With our sense of what is right in terms of building a “Christian Community for All” • And in one more way . . .

  19. Community! • This is where many people really do find themselves

  20. A Caring Place • Gardens and concerts and gatherings and projects and friendships and teaching and opportunities to grow • A community can be the launching pad for many good things in a town or a city • It’s important to build the foundation of the community well and then let many other things flow from that
