  5. BRIDGEIs… A 21st Century Learning Center that focuses on improving the achievement of identified 9th-12th grade students at Carrollton High School and the Performance Learning Center. An array of activities promoting the three 21st Century elements of academic assistance, educational enrichment, and family involvement are designed to enrich the content standards through real world experiences, as well as educational growth opportunities provided to the families of participating students.-pg 4 of Handbook

  8. What exactly does all that mean? • The goal of BRIDGE is to help students and their families in the areas of • Academic Achievement-particularly English Language Arts, Math, and Science • Educational and Social Development • Parent /Family Participation

Academic Achievement • As students, parents, teachers, and administrators we all want the same things…we want students to pass required classes (accumulate credits) and pass required assessments to ultimately GRADUATE HIGH SCHOOL. • BRIDGE offers homework help, individual/small group tutoring, academic enrichment, online test prep, and personalized academic guidance to help our students experience academic achievement.

  10. Educational and Social Development We all want our students to become educated, well rounded, successful adults. BRIDGE offers Career Guidance and Development to all of our students. Our Career Specialist Sally Ingui provides individualized help to our students to identify areas of interest ,potential careers, and how to set goals. Mrs.Ingui, with the help of the BRIDGE staff helps students develop a plan for making these goals a reality.

Educational and Social Development • BRIDGE will also have guest speakers, enrichment activities, and real world experiences to further support these goals. • BRIDGE also provides support and instruction in the areas of social and character development. • BRIDGE students will participate in various community service projects throughout the school year.

  12. Parent and Guardian Participation BRIDGE offers support to help our parents with the challenging duty and privilege of raising and educating a teenager . The BRIDGE program has an amazing Parent Resource Center (see handout) which has resources on a variety of topics including child raising, career development, social/emotional issues, and family support. Parents also have access to computers, printers, and a scanner.

  13. Parent and Guardian Participation • We also plan to offer monthly classes that target the specific needs of our parents including… • Computer Classes • Internet Use • GED classes/testing information • Resume building • Credit accumulation/graduation requirements • Conversational English

  14. What Exactly Does My Child do at BRIDGE Every Day?? • 2:45-3:00- students receive snack and have time to socialize with their friends • 3:00-4:45-homework blitz, specific academic instruction, academic enrichment, and credit recovery • 4:45-5:45-Cultural/Fitness enrichment

  16. Part 2 Participation Requirements and the Handbook

Attendance • Handbook page 7 • Consistent attendance and participation is not only a requirement it is essential to success. • Students who are absent 3 or more consecutive days will be contacted by the Family Liaison or Site Coordinator. Students absent 10 or more consecutive days will be placed inactive and/or withdrawn from the program.

Rules of Conduct • A student found to be in violation of any one of the following rules may be subjected to removal from the classroom, short or long term suspension from BRIDGE program, or permanent removal from BRIDGE. These rules and regulations of conduct apply on the school grounds during BRIDGE hours ,on the BRIDGE bus, and during off campus BRIDGE activities.

  22. Rules • Rule 14: Dress Code (pg. 14) • Progressive Discipline Chart (pg. 15) Consistent structure and discipline are two extremely important parts of a successful BRIDGE program. They promote a safe and healthy learning environment. Structure and discipline also prepares our students to successfully be part of their community and world after high school.

  23. Pick Up and Drop Off • All Students arriving late (due to any reason) must check in with Mrs. Carden • All students leaving early must be signed out in the Media Center by their parent/guardian or a person listed in their registration packet. This is for the safety of all students in the BRIDGE program. • All parents and visitors must check in at the BRIDGE office prior to visiting a BRIDGE classroom .

  24. BRIDGE Hours • Monday-Thursday 2:45-5:45 • Enrichment/Real World outings in the community will be on selected and approved Saturdays. Occasionally, they may occur during BRIDGE hours on a school day.

  27. Part 3 How Did We Do Last Year? End of the Year Summative Evaluation Report June 30, 2012

  28. Goal 1 and Objectives • Goal 1: Three objectives under goal one, 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3 deal with students passing specific academic courses by the end of the year. The courses are math, English, and science. Since these objectives are very similar, they are addressed together.

Goal 1 and Objectives 1.1 )50% of students attending 30 days or more will demonstrate an increase in math as measured by classroom performance by earning a passing grade of 70 for the school year. 77.8 % of students passed their Math course for the year with a 70 or above. This is well above the 50% threshold in the objective. Objective 1.1 has been achieved. 1.2) 50% of students attending 30 days or more will demonstrate an increase in English/Language Arts as measured by classroom performance by earning a passing grade of 70 for the school year. 90.5% of students passed their English course for the year with a 70 or above. This is well above the 50% threshold in the objective. Objective 1.2 has been achieved.

Goal 1 and Objectives 1.3) 50% of students attending 30 days or more will demonstrate an increase in science as measured by classroom performance by earning a passing grade of 70 for the school year. 88.9% of students passed their science course for the year with a 70 or above. This is well above the 50% threshold in the objective. Objective 1.3 has been achieved.

  31. Goal 2 and Objectives 2.1)50% of students attending 30 days or more will have no more than six office referrals for the year. Of the 63 students that attended 30 or more sessions, only 12.7 % had more than six office referrals for the year. 87.3% of students had six or less for the year. This is above the threshold percentage of 50%. Objective 2.1 has been achieved. 2.2) 75% of students attending 30 days or more will complete 75% of their math homework assignments. 78.3% of students completed 75% of their homework assignments in math. Objective 2.2 has been achieved.

Goal 2 and Objectives 2.3 )75% of students attending 30 days or more will complete 75% of their science homework assignments. 90.7% of students completed 75% of their homework assignments in science. Objective 2.3 has been achieved. 2.4) 75% of students attending 30 days or more will complete 75% of their English/language arts homework assignments. 87.2 % of students completed 75% of their homework assignments Language Arts. Objective 2.4 has been achieved.

  33. Goal 3 and Objectives Goal 3.1) 85% of parents or a parental representative (i.e. guardian or mentor) with students attending 30 days or more will participate in at least one of the minimum of 8 family involvement/parental engagement activities offered annually, such as, a parent/teacher conference, student led activity, student/parent activity, parent educational activity, or complete a parent survey. 100% of parents or a parent representative of regularly attending students attended at least one of the activities listed in the objective. This is well above the threshold percentage within the objective. Objective 3.1 has been achieved.

  34. Survey Results Teacher, parent, and student surveys were conducted and reviewed at the end of the year. All groups were positive in every area on the surveys. Parents were very pleased with the program (satisfaction rating of 100%) and felt that their student improved in homework completion (100%) and in behavior (90%) In addition parents indicated that they thought the program was helping with their child’s reading and math skill (80% and 90% respectfully).

  35. Survey Results Ninety four percent (94%) of students strongly agreed or somewhat agreed that the program helped them complete their homework and that they were doing better in school (81%). Seventy five percent (75%) felt (strongly agreed or somewhat agreed) that they feel better about themselves and that their behaviors improved (75%). Sixty nine percent (69%) of students also expressed that they like the Bridge program.

  36. Survey Results Forty two percent (42%) of teachers reported that they had seen significant improvement or moderate improvement in homework completion of students attending the bridge program. Teachers also reported that 51% of students had improved in academics.

  37. Lastly… 1. If you have ideas for parent education nights or programs please write them on the paper that is on your table. 2. If you are interested in serving on the BRIDGE Advisory Council please give your name to Mrs. Carden or Ms. Crowder. 3. Please read and sign page 19 of the handbook and leave it on your table. 4. Please make sure that you take all handouts.
