  2. Why Started? • Broaden perspective of participants • Create an international program with focus for SLPs • Provide linguistic and cultural immersion • Gain information on how our field is practiced from a different cultural perspective

Resources • Partnership of Clinical and Academic faculty with international experience • Academic faculty with Oregon University system with 20+ years of strong connections in Ecuador • Portland State University’s International Office • High level of interest among students • Support from other faculty in the department • In Country Coordinator

  4. Challenges • Preparation • International Office transitions • Budget distribution • Preparation of students from a distance • Incorporating family of coordinators and participants • Taking the leap!

  5. Benefits • Increase Spanish proficiency of SLPs • Develop an appreciation of similarities and differences in values and priorities • Collaborate with Ecuadorean professionals • Develop relationship of mutual respect and exchange
