Development of a Regional Ensemble System

This paper discusses the implementation of a Regional Ensemble System that integrates key components such as COSMO-LEPS, based on ECMWF EPS, to provide initial and boundary conditions for weather forecasting. The Local Model (LM) has been quasi-operational since November 2002, with a horizontal resolution of 7 km. Additionally, LMSynSat generates synthetic satellite imagery from the LM, allowing for the effective use of satellite data to weight various clusters. An Objective Pattern Recognition Algorithm using Pyramidal Image Matching is also outlined to improve forecast accuracy.
