  2. TESCO TODAY… • International Company • Worldwide 440,000 employees / Tesco Ireland 14,000 • Total stores across the world – 3728 / Tesco Ireland 109 • Number of markets - 13 • Where? China, Czech Republic, Hungary, Japan, Malaysia, Poland, Republic of Ireland, Slovakia, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey, UK, USA • Careers in Distribution, Office, Retail, Marketing, law, commercial, Finance, HR, Property , Supply chain. • 43.78% of our staff are male and 56.22% are female.

Tesco History • Founded by Jack Cohen in 1919 with a market stall in London’s East End • Opened first stores in 1929 • Shares floated in 1947 and expansion throughout the UK with a number of acquisitions and new store openings – now 2115 in UK alone! • Launched Clubcard in 1995 and overtook Sainsburys • Late 1990’s Overseas development commenced • In 2006 we started the expansion into America with Fresh and Easy stores • Sales last year were 51.8 billion

Tesco Ireland • 1997: Tesco PLC acquired the retailing and supply chain of Associated British Foods in Ireland – Better known as the Quinnsworth and Crazy Prices retail chain • There were 8,300 employees across 75 stores. • 1998: Introduced Computers for Schools – since then donated over €10 million of computer equipment to Irish schools, Clubcard was introduced and became Ireland’s leading loyalty programme • 2000: Introduced Grocery Home Shopping – the first online shopping service in Ireland, Save as you Earn was introduced for staff • 2001: First Tesco Ireland Charity of the Year Programme – The Irish Cancer Society - since then we have helped raise over €6 million for Irish charities. Now promoting Make a Wish.

Tesco Ireland • 2004: Launched our first self scan checkouts, opened our first express store in Ratoath in Co Meath and our first Extra in Clarehall, Dublin • 2005: Opened our first Petrol Filling Station in Dundrum, we now have 14 • 2007: Opened state of the art Distribution Centre in Donabate Co Dublin, Tesco Mobile was launched • 2008: Today 111 stores employing over 14,000 staff and continuously innovating products and services for our customers.

  7. Roles in Tesco… • Joined in 2001 • Group Personnel Manager covering Superstores in North West, North Wales, Cumbria and the Isle of Man • Group Personnel Manager covering High street stores in North West • HR Integration Manager – Tesco Malaysia • Format Personnel Manager – Tesco Ireland

Individual Profiles JAMES CANAVAN – Head office programme Joined in November 2006 • Space, Range and Merchandising – project role to accurately map products onto the shelves in stores • Property Department – working on energy management to look at how we can be more efficient in our stores in line with our Green agenda • Finance Department – working on the financial model behind introducing new management structures to stores. • Appointed to role as Buyer for Horticulture and Prepared Produce with commercial department – responsible for developing a range for customers and driving sales. Wide variety of skills needed, from financial planning to marketing, very varied and fast paced.

Individual Profiles ORLA DOOLEY – Stores programme Joined in November 2006 • Non Food Manager in storesFocus on understanding customer needs as well as developing staff to deliver great service and talent spotting them • Personnel Manager – Greystones store Focus on ensuring the Managers are the best that they can be and thorough training for all staff to deliver great customer service. “working as part of the Senior Team is never dull, with a lot of emphasis put on initiative and corporate awareness. My role was to grow and maintain a positive and energetic environment where staff and management could work proactively together to achieve the store targets.

What success looks likeSTEVE LEACH – OPERATIONS DIRECTOR • Joined in the 1960’s after leaving school – sweeping floors • Was the youngest Store Manager at the age of 21 • Moved on to be an Area Manager covering a group of stores • Moved to office role as Customer Service Director • Moved to Tesco Ireland as Operations and Logisitic Director FROM FLOOR SWEEPER TO OPERATIONS DIRECTOR

Tony Keohane – Chief Executive • Joined Quinnsworth in 1978 as a Store Manager  • 1981 - Promoted to Regional Manager - 20 stores in the west region • 1995 - appointed to the Board of Quinnsworth • 1997 - appointed as a Director of Tesco Ireland, following the acquisition of the Quinnsworth/Crazy Prices business by Tesco plc.  • 1999 - appointed as a Stores Director of Tesco in UK with 25 stores in the Manchester/ Birmingham area

  20. What success looks like…. • 2001 - Property and Supply Chain Director, Tesco Ireland responsible for the successful development of the Tesco stores network in Ireland including the first Tesco Extra hypermarkets in Ireland • 2006 Appointed as Chief Executive • He currently chairs the Government appointed Services Strategy Group. • Recently addressed the annual IMI conference on aligning growth and sustainability, focusing on adapting to the demands of climate change
