Introduction • LUCIS is the Information Systems Department of the Lake Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. • LUCIS has provided financial software for Adventist churches, schools, conferences (local and union) and other Adventist organizations for over 30 years. ““The Lake Union Software is an exceptional value. LUCIS Software • Different editions and components of the software are designed for use by various types of Adventist organizations and levels of expertise. • LUCIS Software is completely developed, owned and distributed by the Adventist Church. • The software is available directly from LUCIS or by license agreement through union and local conferences.

Expertise • LUCIS Software staff maintain expertise in accounting specifically as it relates to Adventist financial policies, practice, and requirements. “The LUCIS staff have an intimate knowledge of real world Adventist accounting and processing issues...they understand how it is done in the trenches.” – John Rasmussen, Treasurer, Northern California Conference

  9. Software Editions There are five editions to accommodate churches, schools, conference and union offices, and even colleges

Software Editions Different editions are designed to meet the needs from simple to complex accounting. • Lite Edition– small churches and schools • Standard Edition – mid-size churches and schools • Standard Plus Edition – large churches, church schools and small academies • Advanced Edition – miscellaneous commercial-type organizations • Professional Edition – conferences, unions, large academies and small colleges

  11. LUCIS - Manager • An integrated menu is provided for direct access to all modules. • All users are required to login with a username and password. • The software administrator can limit, or grant, access to features of the software by individual.

  12. Address Book • The Address Book provides centralized address functionality for all modules

  13. General Ledger • The G/L menu provides direct access to all accounting functions.

  14. G/L Ledger Query • G/L Query is the primary tool used to view ledger information.   15. G/L Account Lookup The Account Organizer is used to select accounts in the Lite, Standard, and Standard Plus Editions. It can be activated wherever accounts must be identified.

G/L Entry Options • Several options are available for posting entries. • Keyboard use has been optimized to allow for rapid entry. • The Standard Edition and higher allow entries to be saved and recalled for future posting – excellent for reoccurring entries. “The LUCIS Software more than meets our user’s needs…[it] is obviously designed with the user in mind…easy to key data into and easy to get information out in the form of queries and/or reports.” – Harold Greene, Director of Information Technology, Columbia Union Conference

  18. G/L Payments Entry • One of the most frequently used entry programs prints and posts checks. • Check amounts will be in the currency specified for the ledger $ £ ¥ € (Professional Edition Shown)

  19. G/L Receipts Entry • Receipts for payments on account may be printed on demand. (donations are recorded in the donation module) (Professional Edition Shown)

  20. G/L Transfers Entry • Templates can be set up to distribute: • Combined Budget (churches) • Subsidies (schools) • Tithe (conferences) • Non-tithe (conferences) • Distribution by: • Percent • Fixed amount • Balance (Adv/Pro)

  21. G/L General Entry • General Entry is used to record journal vouchers. • A file voucher may be printed if requested.

  22. G/L Batch Entry (Advanced & Professional Editions Only) The Batch Entry allows entry of multiple checks, vouchers, etc. Up to 500 lines of entry per batch. Batches may be saved & retrieved – great for reoccurring entries.

  23. G/L Import and Export Transactions can be imported from other sources.   24. G/L Reports The menu provides access to G/L reporting functions.

G/L Reports • Besides powerful on-screen query functions, a variety of reports may be produced. • User-selected options are available for each report type. • In addition to the viewer distributed on the LUCIS CD, the software can be directed to send output to: • Microsoft Word • Corel WordPerfect • Open Office

  32. G/L Account Organizer The Advanced and Professional Editions use the G/L Account Organizer to set up account functions, classes, and groups used for financial reports.

  33. System Requirements A computer sufficient to run major applications such as word processing or spreadsheets is more than adequate to run LUCIS Software. Operating systems currently running LUCIS Software include: Windows 98, NT 4.0, 2000, XP, 2003

Multi-User Capability • Though the LUCIS Software can run stand-alone it is designed to accommodate multiple users entering and accessing data simultaneously (multi-user) • Network Compatibility • Windows peer-to-peer • Windows Server • Novell Netware • Citrix Thin-Client • Linux Samba Services
