Staff At present the number of the staff at the university is the following: • 138 Doctors of Science andProfessors • 511 Candidates of Science, • 2 Members of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, • 1 Corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, • 7 Honoured Science Workers of the Russian Federation, • 2 Honorary Figures of Russian Higher Education, • 19 Honoured Doctors Of the Russian Federation

  6. Staff • Departments – 73 • Mean age of the faculty members – 47 years • With degrees –71,5% • Doctors of Science percentage –16,5% • Candidates of Science percentage –55%

  7. Students • 5667 students overall • Graduated in 2009 - 940 • Entered in 2009 - 1052

Forms of scientific manpower training • The main form of training is postgraduate education • Currently 256 people are involved in postgraduate training in 38 specialties:7 scientific: «medical science», «pharmaceutical science», «biological science», «chemicalscience», «philosophical science», «sociologicalscience», «cultural studies» • Applicants – 29 people

  9. Forms of scientific manpower training • Doctorate training is available in 4specialties and at present 12 people are being trained

  10. Educationaltraining • The university has a «Regional Socio- humanitarian Centre for further professional training» • Special trainings (72 hours) «Psychological, educational and organizational aspects of academic activity at the medical university» take place every year

  14. International activity For more than 15 years once in every 2 years specialists from the University of Arkansas for Medical Science (USA) conduct conferences in the field of postgraduate education

  17. Innovative teaching model Distance teaching (via the Internet) was introduced at the Volgograd State University at the pharmacology and biopharmaceutical department in 2006 (upgrade qualification of pharmacists)
