  2. Early life and career. • Anders Celsius was born in Uppsala, Sweden, on November 27, 1701. The son of an astronomy professor and the grandson of a mathematician and an astronomer, Celsius chose a life in the world of academics. • His death occurred at Uppsala on the 25thof April 1744.

  3. A different version of thermometer • Celsius was a Swedish astronomer, physicist and mathematician who is famous for the temperature scale he developed.

  4. Celsius Thermometer • Celsius' fixed scale for measuring temperature defines zero degrees as the temperature at which water freezes, and 100 degrees as the temperature at which water boils.

  5. Travel • After he finished his education time in the town north of Stockholm, he became a professor for astronomy by 1730. At this time there was no larger observatory anywhere in Sweden. Therefore, Celsius began a round trip to some of the famous European astronomy sites in 1732. He came from Nuremberg and Rome to Paris in 1734.

  6. Famous Writing • He wrote “Nova Methodus distantiam solis a terra determinandi” (1730) and “De observationibus pro figura telluris determinanda” (1738) along with many less important works.

  7. Becoming famous • In astronomy he made observations of eclipses and various astronomical objects. • Celsius published most of his work in the publications of the Royal Society of Sciences in Uppsala, which is the oldest Swedish scientific society founded in 1710, where Celsius was the secretary 1725-1744, and in the publications of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, founded in 1739.
