  3. GETTING STARTED • From the City College Library homepage click “Quick links to selected resources”.

  4. CCNY LIBRARIES REFERENCE AND RESEARCH • Click the database link.

SEARCHING FROM HOME First Time Users: • First time users must have their ID validated at the Circulation Desk. • Type in your 14-digit CCNY ID barcode • Hit Submit • Fill in required fields • Then sign in as a “Return User” Return Users: • Sign in with email and password you created • Hit Submit

Type a word in the search box, then select Merriam-Webster Dictionary & Thesaurus • under the search box and click Go.

  9. Encyclopaedia Britannica Online • After entering a word or phrase in the search box and clicking Go, you will see a page that looks similar to the one to the left. It provides an overview of the different results that match your query.

  12. Encyclopaedia Britannica Online Workspace icon • A small icon appears next to each link. By clicking that link you will be able to save the contents to a page called WORKSPACE. • When you go to your WORKSPACE you can review, save, or email your results.

  18. Opposing Viewpoints Resource Centerprovides complete sources for information on social issues. You can access viewpoint articles, topic overviews, statistics, primary documents, links to websites, and full-text magazine and newspaper articles.

  20. Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center Searching • Use the pull-down menu to select a search option, i.e., subject (default), keyword, or full-text. • Click search.

  21. Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center Viewing the Results • Each search returns results in seven categories. Click the tab to view the information. • Viewpoints provides pros and cons about the topic from various viewpoints and opinions.

  31. Oxford Reference Online Browsing • Selecting browse at the top of the screen will list all the subject headings in the database. • You can also browse by selecting a specific subject grouping or title.

Oxford Reference Online Searching • Just type in your keyword and it will search all 140 reference books for your topic. • It will search for the exact words and plurals (e.g. world, worlds, world-famous). • Use quotations marks around your search term when you are looking for an exact phrase.

  33. Oxford Reference Online Searching Advanced Search Allows you to: • Search full text or just entry headings. • Restrict searches to specific books or subjects. • Find references to people or dates only.
