  2. Be aware as a man whodeeply feels the needs of others, 1:1-4

  3. Be engaged as a man whoprays persistently for others, 1:5-2:8

  4. Such Prayers have these Qualities: • 1. They know who God is, 4-5 “God of heaven, great and awesome God, Covenant keeper, provider of steadfast love” • 2. They invite God’s attention, 6a “Let your ear be attentive and your eyes open” • 3. They recognize and confess the sins of others,6b “Confessing the sins of the people of Israel”

  5. Such Prayers have these Qualities: • 4. They own the sins of others as their own, 6b-7 “Which we have sinned against you” • 5. They claim God’s past promises of blessing, 8-9 “Remember the word…” • 6. They assert the past relationship and protection from God as grounds for his present deliverance, 10-11“They are your servants and your people, whom you redeemed by your great power.”

  6. Be available as a man whoplans practically to meet the needs of others, 2:9-20

  7. Plans that meet the needs of others… • Make oneself available, 2:11 “Then I went to Jerusalem…” • Becomefamiliar with the problems 2:17 “You see the trouble we’re in…” • Offer practical solutions, 2:17b “Come let • us build…”

  8. Plans that meet the needs of others… • 4. Define the resources, 2:18 “And I told them of the hand of my God…and also of the words of the king” • Expect Opposition, 2:19 “…They jeered at us and despised us…” • Trust in God, 2:20 “The God of heaven will make us prosper…”
