Inquiry Materials Snug in the Snow Hibernating Animal Printouts Why do some animals need to hibernate during the winter? * Hint * Read and look at the pictures to help you learn more about hibernation.

Assessment Questions Put these answers and pictures in your science notebook. • What are some ways animals prepare for hibernation? • What is considered a “true” hibernator? • Name tree mammals that hibernate? • Name two cold-blooded animals that hibernate? • Draw a picture of an animal that hibernates: • during the fall (preparing to hibernate) • during the winter (during hibernation) • during the spring (after waking from hibernation) • (hint: use an animal from the inquiry websites)
