  2. ASMP The Alumni - Student Mentoring Program (ASMP) is an initiative created and launched in May 2009 by the Internship and Career Development Center (ICDC) at the University of Dubai (UD) in collaboration with the UD Alumni Association. ASMP 2018-19

  3. What is the Mentoring Program? The origins of mentoring can be traced back to Greek mythology when Odysseus placed the care of his son, Telemachus, in the hands of his old friend Mentor. Since then, the concept of placing a younger person in the care of an older and wiser individual has played an important role throughout history. ASMP 2018-19

  4. ASMP Objectives • Build mutually beneficial and interactive relationships between alumni and students. • Enhance the students’ educational experience. • Promote professional development and real world experience for students. • Give alumni an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to students and the university. ASMP 2018-19

ASMP Benefits Benefits to Mentee (Students) • Receive support and encouragement from someone who has gone through similar experiences. • Receive guidance on personal and professional issues and life in general. • Form a life-long mentoring relationship. • Build professional networks. Benefits to Mentor (Alumni) • Sharing knowledge and experience with students and assisting them in transition from UD to work place. • Enriching their lives by making a difference in someone else’s. • Reconnecting with UD students on a personal level. • Gaining new skills as they advise and counsel students. • Giving back to their alma mater by serving as role models and leaders to help today’s generation of students reach their goals.   7. ASMP Eligibility • UD Alumni with good career background and experience. • All UD students are eligible. ASMP 2018-19

  8. Suggested Activities • Job shadowing • Check in coffee sessions • Lunch with professional colleagues • Attending a seminar/conference together ASMP 2018-19

  9. Agreement Guidelines • Meeting on a monthly basis. • Completing all necessary paperwork (application, agreement, monthly activity reports and evaluation). • Abiding to ASMP Code of Conduct. ASMP 2018-19

  10. Code of Conduct • Maintain professional relationship. • Mentees to be honest in presenting their issues. • Mutual respect. • Mentoring is a voluntary service. No rewards or financial recompense is expected from mentees. • Mentors and mentees should keep personal information of each other confidential. • Hold meeting in the UD Campus or in a public place. • Cancelling a scheduled meeting, should be done at least 24 hours in advance. • Inform the Alumni Office about possible problems faced. • Continue the relationship over an agreed minimum period of time of one semester (approximately 4-5 months). • Abiding by the above rules are crucial to ensure successful mentoring relationship. Best Mentoring Relationship Award Best successful mentoring relationship are awarded during the ASMP Closing Ceremony based on: • Commitment to the program. • Submission of ASMP’s reports and documents as per set deadlines. • Number of meetings held. • Extent of satisfaction from the help provided. • Extent of satisfaction from the program.
