  5. Florida Water StarSM A voluntary certification program for builders and home buyers to guarantee a minimum level of water efficiency. The goal of this program is to save 40% of current outdoor water use and 20% of current indoor use.

Indoor Highlights • Toilets –MaP standards – 350 gm per flush minimum • Includes 1.6 gallons per flush (gpf) @ 350 gm for ONE flush • Performance reduced consumption • High-efficiency toilets (1.28 gpf) • Dual flush (1.2 gpf average) • Water-efficient dishwashers – 6.5 gpl or less • Water-efficient clothes washers – 6 gallons per cubic foot or less • Leak and rupture protection devices

  11. High Efficiency Toilets • 1 to 1.28 gpf • Dual flush – Full 1.6 gpf and half 0.8 gpf • Re-engineered technology • Larger 3-inch valves for greater water pressure • New flapper materials that don’t corrode • Leaking will not occur in 3–5 years

  12. Leak and Rupture Protection Devices Valve closes when abnormal flow is detected • Installed on pressurized hoses • Dishwasher • Refrigerator • Washing machine • Protects from water damage if pressurized hose breaks – especially valuable when no one is home

Irrigation • Agricultural irrigation system efficiencies* are 60 percent to 90 percent • Landscape irrigation considered excellent at 70 percent efficiency • Florida Water StarSM objective is to attain 60 percent For efficient irrigation • Group plants together based on their water needs • Only water where and when needed
