  1. Welcome To Mrs. Neal’sFifth Grade ClassAugust 16, 2016 On Your child’s desk you will find a letter. Read through this and write them an encouraging note about the year on the back side. Try to include something about your fifth grade experience!

About Mrs. Neal • Family • Eight years ago I relocated to the Overland Park area from Allen, TX where my family still resides. • I got married in October of 2010, had a baby in May of 2013, and we’re excited to announce another little girl on the way in October.. I also have a dog that keeps me VERY busy!

  3. About Mrs. Neal • Education • Undergraduate Degree: Kansas State University Bachelor of Science- Concentration in Social Sciences. • Master of Arts in Education through Baker University.

  4. My Philosophy of Teaching • All children can learn. • Children learn best when actively engaged in the learning process. • Positives get you further than anything. • Kids learn best in a caring, yet challenging environment. • Many opportunities in the classroom for life lessons. • A sense of humor always helps!

  5. Goals For The Year • Students will master Fifth Grade Curriculum • Students will be prepared for Middle School • Students will work on developing a Growth Mindset and Grit to help them find strategies to be successful throughout life. • Students will be responsible for their learning • Students will be confident and successful • Students will enjoy learning • Students will learn to appropriately incorporate technology into their learning

  7. Highlights of Fifth Grade • Harmony Broadcast • Challenging Math - enVision • Reading Interesting Texts • Writing Personal Narratives • Exciting new Science resource through TCI. • Social Studies- Lots of interaction, Revolutionary War, Branches of Government, mapping skills • Ernie Miller

  8. Team Time • What is it? • A time for teammates who consistently display virtues to participate in a team building activity (such as a game, problem solving activity, or art project.) • When is it? • Every other Friday at 3:00-3:25 p.m. • Who participates? • Students who demonstrate virtues on a constant basis. • How does this work? • 3 strikes, you’re out! • Students who are consistently not completing work on time will use Team Time to complete it and reflect. • Students may need to complete a Think Sheet.

Parent Expectations • Encourage your learner • Maintain High Expectations- Keep them realistic! • Hold student Accountable for Actions & Choices • Actively Participate • Synergy- check regularly w/ your learner; discuss, set goals, evaluate.. • Homework- look at for accuracy, completion, effort… • Teach your student to Advocate for him/herself • Contact teacher when necessary

Homework • Written in Planners • Late Assignment Log – 10% grade reduction is take for late assignments • Student will complete work at recess or a time arranged by me if necessary – possibly during Team Time. • It’s the students responsibility to complete and turn in all assignments on time!

  12. Absences • Due to illness or out of town - Students have two days for every day they miss to complete work • Assignments will be given and missed tests taken when the student returns • A written notification must be sent to Dr. Austin for planned vacations.

  13. Purpose: To identify, support and provide classroom teachers and students with technology-rich innovation spaces where the technology is seamlessly integrated into teaching and learning.
