PSYCHO-EDUCATIONAL GROUPS THERE IS SIMILARITY BETWEEN SUPPORT GROUPS AND PSYCHO-ED GROUPS EMPHASIS IS ON INFORMATION GIVING OR SKILL DEVELOPMENT ALTHOUGH LEADER ENCOURAGES MUTUAL SUPPORT SOME EMPHASIS ON SPECIFIC PROBLEM SOLVING USUALLY BUILT AROUND A SPECIFIC TOPIC/THEME DAILY LIVING SKILLS WITH PSYCHIATRIC CLIENTS PARENTING SKILLS ASSERIVENESS TRAINING

  2. Psycho-education groups = provide information on specific topics and involve members in discussing and understanding information. Some problem-solving regarding how to implement information and provides some support. Emotional ventilation not a primary goal. Purpose= help members learn and apply new information and skills. Involves presentations of info and knowledge by experts. discussion among group members to foster understanding.. does not concentrate as much on group processes, emotional bonding or group development. Group leader often focuses on individuals in the group.

  3. SELF-DISCLOSURE IS LOWER THAN SUPPORT GROUPS.Some problem-solving, mainly around how to use/apply material. This problem solving does not require as much member contribution, although it can be used. IN REALITY, SUPPORT GROUPS AND PSYCHO-ED GROUP FORMATS ARE OFTEN COMBINED
