    Exploring Social Studies
  2. Why do we study history? We study history so we can understand the past. Understanding what happened to others can helps us make sense of current events. It can also help us to predict what might happen in the future so that we can make better decisions about today and tomorrow.
  3. Analyzing Sources Explain the difference between a primary and secondaury source. A primary source is created by someone who lived through the events. A secondary source is created by someone who was not present at the events.
  4. Thinking Like a Historian What type of thinking skills does a historian need? Must be able to analyze facts Generate and organize ideas Defend opinions Make comparisons Draw inferences Evaluate arguments Solve problems
  5. What are the five themes of geography? Location- Tallahassee, FL Place- Disney World- Orlando, FL Regions- Florida-Southeast Region of the United States Movement- Lost Home, Job, Better School Human-environment interaction-Native American used the land, plants and animals to build homes, to clothe and feed themselves.
  6. What are the three basic economic systems? Explain each. Traditional-people do what is base on tradition- “the way it’s always been done.” Command-government controls most economic activities. Government leaders tell people what to make and sell. Market-a system of buying and selling things. Buyers and sellers freely choose to buy or make whatever they want. Government takes little role in these decisions.
  7. Free enterprise system Explain what a free enterprise system is. Individuals are free to control and own the means of production. This means if you decide to go into business, you will freely choose what goods or services to produce and how to produce them.
  8. What are two ways you can become a U.S. citizen? Being born in the United States Naturalization- Legal process
