This project focuses on oceanographic research in the Southern Ocean, utilizing Southern Elephant seals as samplers. The deployments at South Georgia and Kerguelen include numerous temperature-only SRDLs and prototype SRDL-CTDs. Since 1993, the National Oceanography Centre’s research has aimed to improve understanding of ocean circulation and mixing, secured funding for ongoing studies, and mapped transient tracers. Key data on temperature profiles will support our insights into nutrient dynamics and the Brazil Current, contributing to oceanographic knowledge in this critical region.
