  1. The Self-Inflating Tire Created by Jessica Nick and Brian

  2. Why You Need it! • Imagine yourself bicycling around the Art Museum when all of a sudden, “Oh No! My tire is flat!” • With our self-inflating tire and a handy dandy patch kit, you will be back on that bike in no time!

  3. Doesn't that already exist? Yes! In Japan there is a new type of bicycle tire that automatically reinflates itself while the bike is being pedaled. It is called the Air Hub and it automatically keeps tire pressure up by taking the kinetic energy of the wheel's rotation and using it to power an air pump mounted inside the hub of the wheel. Any excess air is automatically let out to keep the tire from bursting.

  4. So why pick ours? • It is more efficient to use • Less expensive • The Air Hub requires you to bike a certain distance before enabling the inflating system. • We have no distance requirements • Less visible. More aesthetically pleasing • Easy enough for children to utilize

  5. How did you come up with this amazing invention? • Experience with flat tires (in the rain) • Technology from the Spalding infusion • Creative thinking and practicality • Hating to buy new tires • Trial and error

  6. What is the Spalding Infusion? The Spalding company has developed a new way to inflate a basketball. They build the pump right in it! Just press the Micro Pump on Spalding's Infusion Basketball for a perfectly inflated ball every time. The pump retracts completely into the ball when you're done inflating and has no effect on performance.

  7. Sketching Process

  8. How does it work? • Its quite simple! • Functions like your normal size air pump. • Push down and unscrew the top and a small pump will be released. • Simply pump to desired pressure. • Push down and screw the top in place. • Hop back on that bike and off you go!

  9. What if there’s a hole?? • In the case of a hole, we suggest carrying our complimentary patch kit. • It is tiny enough to fit in your pocket and easy enough for children to use! • Simply patch the hole, pump up the tire and your off!

  10. That sounds expensive… • Actually it is quite inexpensive! • The average bike tire costs around $20. • With the micro-pump added in, there is only an additional $5 added to the fee. • Imagine that! Only $5 for an air pump AND patch kit!

  11. The Final Product The micro-pump is placed where the air pump would have been attached. When the average person looks at your tire, they will have no idea that you have an air pump! Try it out, you will never be flat again! Safe riding!

  12. The Self-Inflating Tire is brought to you by Nick Cataldi, Brian Steinberg and Jessica Herrmann
