Overview • Offenses against the Holy name • To consider the glories of chanting Hare Krsna to be imagination. • To give some interpretation on the holy name of the Lord. • To commit sinful activities on the strength of chanting the holy name of the Lord. • To consider chanting of Hare Krsna one of the auspicious ritualistic activities offered in the Vedas as fruitive activities (karma-kanda). • To instruct a faithless person about the glories of the holy name. • To not have complete faith in the chanting of the holy names and to maintain material attachments, even after understanding so many • instructions on this matter. It is also an offense to be inattentive while chanting. Chanting Holy name – means and the goal Approach Holy name with proper knowledge Introspect and avoid them Obstacles - discuss
Verse 1 • Best Sadhana – Harinama Sankirtan • cleanses the heart • frees one from material miseries • moon (Holy Name) and Lotus (soul) • full of knowledge • ocean of bliss • completely purifies us
Verse 2 • How easy it is to take to this process? • no consideration of time, place and performer • Holy Name is all powerful • No attraction to Holy Name because of offenses
Verse 3 • Who is qualified to chant the Holy Name? • Humble than a blade of grass • More tolerant than a tree • Not expecting any respect from others • Giving all respect to others
Verse 4 • The only desire of the pure devotee - • no material wealth • no beautiful men/women • no material followers • ONLY devotional service
Verse 5 • Praying to realize one’s spiritual identity • Eternal servant
Verse 6 • External symptoms of perfection in devotional service
Verse 7 • Internal symptoms of perfection
Verse 8 Total dependence on Krishna
The Nine Stages of Bhakti Yoga or Devotional Service 1. sraddha: faith 2. sadhu-sanga: association with devotees 3. bhajana-kriya: performance of devotional service 4. anarthanivrtti: decreasing of unwanted attachments 5. nistha: steadiness 6. ruci: taste 7. asakti: attachment 8. bhava: love 9. prema: pure love for Krsna
