This project, initiated by GTZ, aims to strengthen the capacity of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in India by developing training modules and environmental guidelines. The focus is on compliance with environmental laws, pollution prevention, and sustainable development. Key activities include a workshop on chemical waste incineration, exposure visits for best practices, and formulation of guidelines for hazardous waste management. The project also emphasizes spatial environmental planning in Europe and resources management in Germany to bolster India’s environmental compliance and performance.

Capacity building of CPCB Major Overseas Training-cum-Visits • Overall objective of the task identified by the GTZ is to develop training modules, the required environmental guidelines, incorporating various environmental considerations so as to: • comply with various environmental laws , norms and standards • protect environment, conserve natural resources, prevent and control pollution : and • achieve sustainable development. • Strengthening Capacity Building in Environment • Spatial Environmental Planning in Europe • Environmental Management and Land Based Natural Resource Planning in Germany • Overseas visit-cum-exposure for Common Hazardous Waste Incinerator • Trainings for National Reference Trace Organic Guidelines for common hazardous Incinerators • CPCB interacted with the European operators of the incineration facilities/regulators/implementing officers for formulation of guidelines and standards for common hazardous waste incinerators in the country. • Based on CPCB recommendation, MoEF issued the Notification under the Hazardous Waste (Management & Handling) Rules. Website Restructuring and redesigning the CPCB website (www.cpcb.nic.in). It serves the purpose of on-line data publication, data acquisition from SPCBs, creating a Data Bank using Internet etc. Guidelines for Emissions from chemical and hazardous waste Incinerators • GTZ supported organising a workshop on “Chemical Waste Incineration”. GTZ provided an overseas expert, • Dry (24) and wet (14) studies were completed in selected industries in Basic Organic Chemicals, Pesticides, Dye & dye intermediate and Bulk drugs. GTZ team, CPCB team and NPC team undertook studies.
