  1. Choice of Maya By D&T

  2. Let us begin. You are a young Maya. This is the story of your life. Are you a male or female? Male Female

  3. You awaken at 5:00 one morning to your wife’s home cooking. Your foot steps are followed by your son. “Mmmm cornmeal pancakes” your son says happily. “Eat up, we have a big day today. The maize crop is ready for harvesting” you say between a large bite of pancake. Later in the field your son sees the new irrigation system you recently built. “Did you make that all by yourself?” he says in awe. How do you respond? Noooo men from the sky did. No duh, idiot!

  4. You awaken at 4:00 to start a fire and cook cornmeal pancakes. Your husband and son come down and eat. After breakfast they go out into the fields. You go and bathe in the community bath then return home and file down your teeth. Then you insert bits of dazzling jade into the holes. Then body paint yourself a rich purple. Your husband returns and eats lunch and kisses your purple forehead saying that the crops are healthy. You start to weave. How good are you at this? Rather well. The gods themselves should be in awe of my skills!

  5. Your son looks pretty disappointed at your response but he did question your capabilities. Your wife has a fantastic lunch waiting for you and has apparently painted herself purple. You kiss her forehead affectionately and get back to work. The maize is your best crop. What do you say about this? Hun Hunahpusmiles down upon us! Oh yeah! Mad skills baby!

  6. You create a fine ex (loincloth) for your husband and child. Then you weave yourself an amazing new dress. For dinner a priest comes over and enjoys a delightful meal with your family and says: “Tomorrow is one of the five unlucky days this year, watch your back and crops carefully!” How do you respond? Oh, my! I guess Cizin holds the day upon his shoulders tomorrow! *Faints*

  7. Your son rejoices with you and smiles at the heavens. That night a priest, dressed with seashells on his ex, comes by for dinner and mentions something about tomorrow being sorrowful or something. Your wife faints after hearing the news and you catch her in your strong arms. How do you respond to the news? Haha, good joke. Wait, your serious!? I hope nothing too bad happens!

  8. You then pull yourself together and carry on with your chores along with your family. The next day you hear a racket outside. Large groups of white men, Spaniards, try to overtake your town. Your husband helps when an attack against them arises. You and your son hide in the cornfields. Later you and your son return to find that the white men have retreated. Your husband contracts a deadly disease, Smallpox to be exact. What do you do? Give him some homemade remedies and hope he gets better. Take him to the healers and pray.

  9. The priest nods gravely and leaves. You go onto working on your chores, still shaken by this news. The next day you hear a loud, continuous sound and find white men demanding that you allow them to rule this town. You grab an axe and tell your wife and child to hide. The battle is intense, but still you prevail. You contract Smallpox afterwards. Your wife takes you to the healers, but to no avail. You die at 1:00 a.m. Your last words are: “I love you.” Your wife and son honor you within their hearts. Finish Game

  10. The healers cannot save him and he dies. His last words are: “I love you.” You and your son grieve about his death for days, you even contemplate suicide, for it is common amongst your people. You don’t want your son to be an orphan so no rope snaps your neck. You carry on and trudge through life. Your son has become a man overnight. Are you proud of him? He did what he was expected to do. Very

  11. You aren’t that good at healing so he dies. He proclaims his love for his family and passes. Your son matures very fast. He harvests maize like his father and even fixes the irrigation system. Eventually you get over the death of your husband. Your son filled his shoes perfectly. Are you proud? Extremely! He did what was necessary for survival.

  12. You have died a noble death. Thank you for playing!

  13. He seems proud as well. A few weeks pass before the white men return. They demand either your surrender or a battle. This time they have more men and better weapons. Your son brings an axe and is prepared to avenge his late father. Do you go back and grab a weapon or flee to the crops? I fight to avenge my husband! I flee to the crops and wait.

  14. He seems pretty proud anyway, but you are right he was expected to replace his father.

  15. The battle is intense, but you manage to kill some invaders. In combat you hack into the side of one when another puts an arrow in your abdomen. Afterwards one of your husband’s friends takes you to the healers. They do everything they can, but your wounds are too grievous for them to mend. You are buried alongside your son. Finish the story!

  16. You run into the maize and hide. The battle ends and your son is thankfully alive. Through the years he meets a woman and marries her. They help out around the house, which is really helpful given your age. Eventually you pass from old age. You have had an interesting life, now that is over. Finish the story!

  17. You have died a noble death. Thank you for playing!

  18. You have survived the invasion! You live happily with your son until you die of old age. By then he is married and is expecting a baby. Thank you for playing!
