  1. Send Veebs to India.

  2. I’m that one  Hello. I’m Vibeke, I’m in year 13 studying English, History and Sociology. This year I’m fundraising to volunteer in India with a gap year charity called ‘Project Trust’ so this PowerPoint is to raise awareness and to hopefully get you involved in a couple of events that could help me to reach my fundraising target. Me hopefully on a plane this time next year ... Driving it.

  3. What is ‘Project Trust’? Project Trust is an educational gap year charity sending young people aged 17-19 overseas to volunteer in Africa, Asia and South America. The trust focuses on educating however there are also elements of social care, outward bound courses and journalist projects. The trust sends a limited number of people overseas and to get accepted I had to attend a selection course on the Isle of Coll in Scottish Hebrides. Arriving in Oban we took a ferry across to Coll and lived with host families for a few days while spending our time out and about on the island.

  4. Me. (The short blue one.) In the middle of August. Pretty cold.

  5. Once selected volunteers have to raise £5,100 with smaller targets spread out across the year to make this target easier to manage. My first was in November and my next will be in March. So far I have raised £3000 from cakes sales in college, curry nights, raffles, speeches and leg waxing, but I still have £2100 left to raise and hopefully you can help me get to my project in India. Any little bit that you can donate will help me a lot.

  6. My Project. We have little information about the country we are allocated until closer to the time but as far as I know I have been selected to spend a year in Andhra Pradesh or Tamil Nadu in the South of India. In Andhra Pradesh I would be teaching visually impaired children and in Tamil Nadu teaching conversational English. I will also be setting up extra curricular activities for the children to build up confidence. Past volunteers have also set up secondary projects like helping out in local soup kitchens or the equivalent. Pictures taken from Andhra Pradesh volunteers 09/10

  7. However my project could change as it will not be confirmed until May when Project Trust has made its final decisions. Sometimes situations change within the country and Project Trust have to pull out of the region, for example the trust used to send people to the Middle East as well as Africa, Asia and Latin America, but due to the turmoil in this region it had to end these projects. It is also possible that new projects could come up where the trust think your talents are more suited. In the event of this we pick other countries we would like to go to. My second and third options are South Africa and Malawi which are both social care projects.

  8. How you can get involved. *There will be a cake sale outside Creelers, Thursday 24th February. There will be a lot of different cakes if you just fancy something sweet. All cakes 50p with the money raised going to Project Trust. • If cake’s aren't your thing though there is also a curry night organised for Monday 20th February at ‘Step in India’ in Rochdale. Here you can turn up at 7pm and get a starter and main course for £15 with a percentage of the money raised going towards Project Trust. The address is: Step In India, 2 + 4 St Mary’s Gate, Rochdale, OL16 1DZ
