Signs Of A Bad Catalytic Converter

The catalytic converter is usually an oval shaped metal shell, inside it is an element
made of a ceramic honeycomb core,in the core there are 3 precious metals which are platinum, pallidium and
rhodium. The job of the catalytic converter is to simply control and reduce emissions, it does this by catalyzing a
radox reaction. This can only occur when the percious metals are present. Platinum is the most reactive metal so is the preffered material.

 1. Signs Of A Bad Catalytic Converter

 2. A catalytic converter is the part on a car that deals with the emissions and it's main aim is to reduce pollution. The catalytic converter is usually an oval shaped metal shell, inside it is an element made of a ceramic honeycomb core The job of the catalytic converter is to simply control and reduce emissions, it does this by catalyzing a redox reaction. A catalytic converter can fail and will then need to be replaced.

 3. There are a few tell tale signs when a catalytic converter is started to fail. 1. A reduction in power, this could be because the catalytic converter is blocked.

 4. 2. Engine light comes on and when scanned tells your the catalytic converter is the cause. 3. A smell of rotten eggs is always a big sign there is an issue with the catalytic converter, not a pleasant smell at all! 4. If you can here a rattle in the exhaust the chance is it is either the heat shield or the catalytic converter

 5. 5. Tap test, you can tap the catalytic converter and then tap the still exhaust pipe next to it, if they sound the same your catalytic converter is empty and will need replacing.

 6. Whenever we buy a scrap car the first thing we do is the tap test, you should here a hollow noise if it is empty and a heavy noise if full. WWW.CARS-2-CASH.COM CALL US TODAY FREE PHONE: 0800 024 6204 MOBILE: 07572 603821
