  2. L’imperativo • L’imperativo is a command. Telling someone what to do! Sit Down! Be Quiet! Eat! Do your homework! Drink your milk! Be nice! Don’t do that!

  3. L’imperativo • In Italian, here is how you form the command: -are verbs: Tu form: Positive Command: Mangia! Eat! Ascolta! Listen! Parla! Speak! Balla! Dance! **Notice that it is the lui/lei form, but in a command it means YOU!

  4. L’Imperativo • In Italian, here is how you form the command: -are verbs: Tu form: Negative Command: Non mangiare! Don’t eat! Non ascoltare! Don’t listen! Non parlare! Don’t speak! Non ballare! Don’t dance! **Notice that you do not conjugate the verb in a negative TU form Command!

  5. L’Imperativo • In Italian, here is how you form the command: -ere and -ire verbs: Tu form: Positive Command: Scrivi! Write! Pulisci! Clean! Bevi! Drink! Parti! Leave! **Notice that it is the Tu form here, but with –are verbs it is the lui/lei form.

  8. L’Imperativo with Ci and Ne • With single syllable commands the c of the ciis doubled. Andare: Va’ (vai) + ci Vacci! Go there! (Non andarci!) Stare: Sta’ (stai) + ci Stacci! Stay there! (Non starci!) but: Dormire: Non dormirci! Non cidormire! (Ci can go either place.) Dormici! Sleep there!

  9. L’Imperativo with Ci and Ne • With single syllable commands the n of the neis doubled. Fare: Fa’ (fai) + ne  Fanne due! Do two of them. (Non farne due!) (Don’t do two of them. Andare: Vai’ (vai) + ne Vanne a prendere un po’. Go and get a little bit (of it). Non andarne a prendere un po’. Don’t go there and get a little bit (of it). but: Prendere: Non prenderneuno! Don’t take one (of it). Prendineuno! Take one (of it).
