PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE. USE 1 We use the Present Perfect Continuous to show that something started in the past and has continued up until now. "For five minutes," "for two weeks," and "since Tuesday" are all durations which can be used with the Present Perfect Continuous.

  1. PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE

  2. USE 1 We use the Present Perfect Continuous to show that something started in the past and has continued up until now. "For five minutes," "for two weeks," and "since Tuesday" are all durations which can be used with the Present Perfect Continuous. NOTE:MAKE THE KID UNDERSTAND THE USAGE OF PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE.

  3. Examples: They have been talking for the last hour. She has been working at that company for three years. What have you been doing for the last 30 minutes? James has been teaching at the university since June. NOTE:MAKE THE KID UNDERSTAND THE USAGE OF PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE WITH EXAMPLES.

  4. USE 2 You can also use the Present Perfect Continuous WITHOUT a duration such as "for two weeks." Without the duration, the tense has a more general meaning of "lately." We often use the words "lately" or "recently" to emphasize this meaning. NOTE:MAKE THE KID UNDERSTAND THE USAGE OF PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE.

  5. Examples: Recently, I have been feeling really tired. She has been watching too much television lately. Have you been exercising lately? Mary has been feeling a little depressed. NOTE:MAKE THE KID UNDERSTAND THE USAGE OF PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE WITH EXAMPLES.

  8. FILL IN THE BLANKS (e.g.)Grandpa……….. with his grandchildren for hours(play). Grandpa has been playing with his grandchildren for hours.a)I……….. for the missing piece of the jigsaw since ten o'clock(look). b)He………….there ever since he went there for a holiday(work). c)He ……… from toothache all day(suffer). d)I…………… ill lately(feel). NOTE:ENCOURAGE THE KID TO FILL THE BLANKS TO MAKE A CORRECT PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS SENTENCE.

IDENTIFY THE RIGHT ONE Make the student to choose the Present Perfect continuous tense sentence from the below sentences a)The cat has been singing all night b)We are watching television. c)We've been working together. d)Am I reading a book? e)These apples have been growing all summer and now they're ripe and ready to be picked. They look delicious. f) She came home last week. NOTE:ENCOURAGE THE KID TO IDENTIFY THE CORRECT PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS SENTENCE IN THE ABOVE SENTENCES.
